The movie revolves around a contemporary married couple, charting their evolution over a period of years by cross-section between periods.

Dean and Cindy Heller Pereira are a young couple from the working class - Dean works as a painter, and Cindy working as a nurse in a clinic - with a young daughter named Frankie.Despite their relatively tender ages, they are both by the life they have fought together and by the experiences they had, resulting in their marriage ravaged.Dean, a school dropout, comes from a broken home, where he never really had a mother figure.He saw himself getting married or a family in spite of love at first sight with Cindy.He does not have any professional ambition beyond his current work - which he enjoys since he feels he can have a beer at 8 clock in the morning without it affecting his work knock - although Cindy believes that.Cindy also comes from a dysfunctional family, with her own mother and father not an example of a harmonious married or family life
